need help for this one,
here we go

another
and another;

ok, wath I now: applied lip, 3 pieces molds, written on the base: "powell bristol" found in ontario neer kingston at the botom of st-laurence river.

can anyone help dating this bottle?

Hi guys, my english can look funny for you because I am from Montréal and I speak french! so I'm trying to be the most comprehensive I can.


My name is Godard so it is why I'm using GOD as nickname on all other forum, maybe I should change for someting else..

thank you for your help, I found this bottle when I was scubadiving. Me I a group of diver find 2 to 5 bottles a week in lakes and river. we have a nice collection of different type but not much older then this one.

no need to explain yourself Martin. the bible thumpers get a little twitchy sometimes.
you have a nice little bottle there. It's an ale, dates around 1855-65 and was made by Powell from Bristol England. Powell started with stoneware bottles, ginger beers and the like I've seen the marks and prgressed into glass making. Later parnering with a guy named Ricketts. Went out of business in the 1920's
the bottle on the left is marked Powell Bristol.

I considered HailAlmightySatan but it is a bit long winded

Its a little hard to date non-USA bottles unless you know something about the progression of glass making techniques in the particular country (or region). We can make approximate guesses based on known dates of manufacturing dates here. Of course if its embossed the best route is to try and date it by the company history. I would guess that bottle is from the late 1860s to early 1870s. It does resemble the Ricketts molds some except the ones I have seen have the embossing on a flat rim of the base (nessisary if the bottle is iron or glass chip pontilled)
