Hey Randy,

From what material is this made? At first I thought ceramic, now I think I'm seeing a metallic verdigris patina. Is the top threaded? How did you come upon it?

certainly has an interesting paint job but it doesnt seem to be a very utilitarian form.

Put some twine around the neck and hang it on your wall.

Being that it's made from Metal and obviously was meant to Hang instead of sit up, I'm thinking it Could be some sort of Powder Flask? Other than that... maybe just a decorative piece. Would be cool if it was an Ancient Artifact!!!

I think David is onto something here, the symbol on the flask is an Egyptian Scorpian symbol. If this turns out to be what I think it is it may very well be one of the oldest vessels ever seen on this forum. The flask looks to be authenic and period. How old you ask just about as old as you can get.The predynastic period in upper Egypt where the scorpian king originated is in the 3500 BC time period  http://www.ancientegyptonline.co.uk/predynlist.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Scorpion             http://www.phouka.com/pharaoh/pharaoh/dynasties/dyn00/06scorpion2.html  This is a nice find, try and research a University near you that deals with ancient Egyptian artifacts.

Ummmm Yeah....I'm gonna stick with my original thought since this one is now available at auction with the same embossed figure without the black paint/coating on it....Tourist piece seems right on the money to me....
