My son found a nice looking bottle in the steam behind our house. It has P.J. Ritter Company; Phila. on the bottom. It is 8" tall & 2" in diameter. There are three rings near the bottom and three near the top. It is clear glass and looks like a ketchup bottle would have looked in the past. any help would be appreciated.

I go with a fruit syrup also. They started in the 1850's and became huge and even though they were aquired by another company the family was still active in the 1960's. They mostly made and sold fruit jellies, jams and butters but also started the canning of asparagus in 1891.
That's the short of it from Betty Zumwalt.

Its a Catsup in Zumwalts book there is a pic under the Ritter listing that shows the Ritter product line. That bottle is the last one and you can read the label Catsup. I dug a lot of those in a dump near Alexander Bay NY. A couple had parts of labels on them and you could read the Catsup. All of the ones I dug were early ABM. DMD

Hello Lori,

Welcome to the Forum. Way to put the seal on an older bottle mystery. Nicely done, but you gotta check that little box that sex "Embed photo" or whatever it sez. What else is lurking in your basement?

I also found one of these bottles too. The Owens circle messed up the markings around the bottom so I haven't been able to figure out what is there. The rings are a giveaway though.

Odd shape for a catsup, I  got one of these in a  embossed soda lot I purchased, always thought it was a papaer label soda,  guess I have to take it off the shelf now, lol .
