I went out today and we dug one privy and started a well. Only one marble and a broken pontiled medicine I assume as it was unembossed. We got started on the well and are down about 6 feet finding a lot of stinsons shoe polish from buffalo and also these sweet shards of an awesome piece of majolica. This would have been a nice find! Also an amber Father John's and a Dill's balm of life norristown pa.

here's me in the privy hole. The well seems prmising and it was only 3 feet away from the pontil privy. Maybe the well went dry and they put a privy next to it. Maybe they just dumped in it and kept the privy clean is all I can guess.

We got lucky with the rain too, today in Central Ohio but ended up with little to show for it.Looks like you got a fun dig going on there. That mochaware bowl would have been a great find,it dates to the 1850's or older so maybe it's a sign of things to come.By the way I am looking for a pontilled soda from your way embossed Brennan & Graham Stuebenville,O..I have dug a broken one,and with a son named Brennan would like to come across a good one.If you turn up an extra, give me a hollar I would be willing to trade for or buy it.Keep up the good digs and stories.

I know a guy that has one and he'll deal on it. Do you have anything from wheeling marked Wheeling, Va. That's his weakness
But I know he'll barter.

Hey Zane, I just dug a W.V. bottle last week. It's an amber beer, blown glass, and says Schmul Bach Brewing Co. Wheeling, W.VA. on it. I'm not trying to sell or trade it, but could you ask your friend about it for me? I'm just curious as to if it's a common one or one that's hard to come by. Thanks for any help you can give me on this one. Chris Capley

Thats a very nice earthworm decorated mocha ware bowl. the age on the one with the green decorated turned edge are usually pre 1830s and i usually find these in a 1800-1820 contex so its a bit older then you probably realize. But its not an uncommon thing to find early shards in the top of a hole and the use layer to be much newer.

Chris
