Settlement on the 101 acres I can explore is coming up soon and the new owners are already tearing the place up with a dozer so I decided to try and snatch that piece of rusty metal junk I discovered out in the woods.  Good thing I had 4wd, manuvering the truck downhill through the woods was tricky but doable and getting back out would have been impossible without it!  I'm pretty certain now this is part of a portable sawmill operation, and an old one, TOC or better.  This part weighs 136 pounds and has a 0 -36" scale on both sides.

Here's part of a long but really small rail? that's buried nearby.  The camera case I put in for scale.  I think there's another buried as well as other parts.  This past year I bought a very old picture postcard on ebay showing a local sawmill operation on an unknown local hill. The people in the picture were identified as oldtimers related to folks who still live nearby.  It would be very ironic if this were the remains of that very mill.

Well, don't know too much, but where I live, an old Logging Railroad went through.  1898-1902.  I also dug up a piece of Rail.  The rail is alot like yours, very thin compared to the RR rails today....

Thanks Julie, that's cool.  I have hiked through remote areas where logging rails went through, it's pretty cool to see the railroad and camp stuff the left behind at the turn of the century.  I think this was a huge but portable sawmill that went out to farms?
