I posted back in Nov asking for information about my 3 1/2 inch Cobalt Blue Skull bottle & now I'm interested in selling it. Could anyone give me a free appraisal and/or an opinion on how much I could get for it? My husband finally took some pics for me & added a link on here for anyone to click on & see it. Thanks again, Jill

10 years ago when i collected poisons this bottle was on the very top of my wish list!! I did a yahoo search for skull poison bottle and found the poison bottle hall of fame.they list this bottle as very rare in the 3 1/2" size.i have seen some very nice bottles get a fair market price on ebay.that really is a nice bottle.was it a dug bottle?

I hope I'm posting this correctly.

No this bottle was not a dig find. My Grandmother gave it to me & I have no idea where she got it. She's from Charleston WV though. I had it for years & had no idea it was worth anything. I have looked up information on the web & bottle books & have seen the same bottle "famous finds" or something like that but it still doesn't give me a clue as to what I should hope to get if & when I sell. My husband's going to help me sell it on ebay(I'm an experienced buyer not a seller) depending on what I think I can get it for. I'd rather sell it in person from my home but I don't suppose anyone is going to fly to Pittsburgh. I wonder how many are known to still be around?

Hi Jillj - why don't you post it in our 'Buying & Selling' area? I think some of the forum members would be very interested in purchasing it

According to my collector's guide (published 2002) there are three sizes, with the smallest (2 3/4 inches) being the rarest.

The smallest size is valued at $1,800 - $2,250.

A full set of all three sizes $7,500 - $10,500

Thanks Max for the info. So it seems since the smaller one is more valuable & only around the 2k mark then I might have to think a bit longer on selling my medium size one. My husband says I can sell it on ebay with a reserve & I still may do just that but I guess I had dreams of a really big vacation not just a week at the beach. :) Thanks for the info.

I see that this post is old, but I just joined today, so here goes anyway. I am somebody who, since first discovering the cobalt skull poison bottles, has said aloud, "This is my life's quest." I would be interested if anybody has one they wish to part with. Oh, by the way, I did not even know there were any reproductions made. Interesting. Any info on those?

I think almost every desirable bottle has been reproduced. Lookout for them.
Any bottle marked (typically on the base) with:

WHEATON
MADE IN TAIWAN
MADE IN JAPAN
CROWNFORD CHINA
EMPIRE GLASS WORKS
CLEVENGER BROTHERS GLASS WORKS
OLD STURBRIDGE VILLAGE
is a reproduction bottle.

Jill hang onto them. The price jumps every 15-20 years or so. Skulls in mint shape are rarities. The glass around the nose is paper thin. you see lots of them with repairs, some good some awful. You have two different sizes in mint you say? Sell them as a group. They may get you to Europe if you catch the right buyers. I'd Ebay them as a last resort. There are a few good bottle auction sites out there Heckler's for one that would more than likely get you top dollar.
Good Luck, Rich.

Hey lobeycat thanks for the advice. I'm still looking to sell it & I'll have to look into your suggestions of places. By the way I only have the one bottle at 3 1/2 inches. I took it to a bottle show in Baltimore MD this past spring & someone with a knowledge of poison bottles said it was definitely original & did not appear to have any repair work done to it. It looks pretty perfect to me especially the nose area. Anyway...thanks again. jill j.

Yeah I wish Brian! Skulls are a bit outside the budget in this house. Hmmmmm maybe I can borrow against the house, yeah yeah and skip a few meals that wouldn't hurt. and the kid doesn't need new sneakers till school starts..... hey maybe I can swing this

This bottle is now for sale! I'll be posting the info in the For-Sale/Auction forum. If it doesn't move here then look for it on ebay with a $2000 reserve. Jill
