I tried reading it but my eyes are too bad. Picture came out great and magnifies everything so you can read it.

I believe the U.S. and cannon buttons are WWI era, the eagle in the lower right looks like it could be older. I have a book around here somewhere if I can find it, I'll try and look it up.

Well, did a bit of searching, but I'm still searching for images.  Obviously, the US is Army, and the cannons are Artillery.  the EGA must be an early USMC button or badge.  One of my fave marine corps sites for stuff is Sgt. Grit.  Here is their posted history on the emblem.

Wikipedia had a few images, but not a very good history of them pictured...so I'm still looking.  I dont know if you can tell from the history listed above will describe what you have to target a date, but it seems to be fairly old.  I will keep looking though.

Well, everyone has that same writeup, but no images.  The best bet I can tell you is to contact the museum itself, and, maybe make a donation if it's what we think it is..  I would love to take my wife to this museum some day.

Thanks everyone for the input. 2 friends of mine have gone to the USMC museum and love it. I've got it on the list to hit this summer. Can't wait to put my daughter in "the box" and have a real DI yell at her.
