dump appears to coal ash from top to bottom. apparently the town used the switchback to haul it out of town.

I was pretty well worn out by the time i got there. it seems its been dug  well, but it's so darn big hard to believe all of it's been gone thru. i did a bunch of stuff around the house before i left, then took a wrong path finding it. i'll get a better idea next visit. didn't see any broken colored soda pieces anywhere...............

i really wish it was a park. I was a member of the switchback restoration foundation back in the mid-90's. it's really just a matter of time till at least a section of it is restored. Mauch Chunk, now Jim Thorpe is an absolutely gorgeous area. the main problem is no room for expansion or parking. if you are interested in more information, google

mauch chunk switchback railroad.

i''ve done quite a bit of digging along various parts of the switchback. they used the tracks to carry garbage out of town.
