The item up front looks like what they used to attach to a can of spam, to open it.

Big a$$ indeed!  The spoon with the hole in the handle definately looks like US Army issue.  Is it stainless steel?

hi david e, warren and jguis,  the can spam opener? is 6 1/2" tall and 6" across handle. the round end is like a socket?   the spoon has silco stainless on the back.  the fork has the same type u s on it, but a lot heavier and has o.l. stainless on it.  thanks for looking,   rhona

The handle could have been a square key for a gas valve, or to wind a large clock.

He's correct, I recognize those as being part of a US military mess kit.  Not sure if they still have those, I've been out for 30 years.
