hi everyone,  it's been a while since i have posted.  last few weeks i spent more time hiking thru the woods then digging, looking for a new dump.  would find 1 or 2 things, but nothing great.  today i went back to a place i dug at about a yr. ago. dug a  w. t. bottle, a larger vinegar carafe, the best piece was broken,  a bottle embossed  robert porter, brewing co., alexandria, va..  would like some help dating, as the top is missing.  excuse the dirty bottle, i was hopeing the embossing would show anyway. picts of a couple of other bottles incluced.  thanks for looking.  good luck digging.   rhona

Crapola..that bottle with the broke off top looks like a good one.  Is there a no longer used road perhaps and that is a ravine you were in?

hi kevin,  thanks for looking.  the area where the car things are is behind some pre 1900 houses.  looks like some of them had stone, bricks, whatever to build up the back of the property.  i hope to find one they didn't do that too.  the only thing i found out about the beer, is the co. want out of bussiness in 1916.  rhona

Rhona,

Can you post a clearer picture of the Portner?  We have found several types in central/tidewater Va. over the years (there really are many varieties by-the-way), I may have a clue as to the date.  Most of the ones we see down here are aqua - some of the older ones (blobs) are very sharp bottles even if fairly common.

If you get it repaired just have em' stick a blob on the top.

Hi Rhona,
Glad you were able to get out and do a little scouting and digging.  Enjoyed the pics.  Good luck on your next dig.  Still too hot down here to do any serious digging.  Was on vacation for a week and a half, but no digging.  Trying to get caught up on my endless Honey-Do List.  The more you do, the more there is to do.  Sold some aluminum cans, and scrap metal, but no glass.

hi mike, bill, E, and buster,  thanks so much for looking,  need the encouragement some times.  my husband said the hood is from an early 30's car. bill, i guess i should go back and look in the tires,  but if something starts moving watch out.  E,  got a better pic., after cleaning the dirt out it looks like it would change color.  buster,  sure wish i could get my honey to do.  wish i could send some cool days to you so you can dig,  but it hasn't been to cool here.  good luck all,   rhona
