Picked up some jars yesterday to add to the collection.  Again, hard to resist at a buck apiece.  Redbook doesen't list the double safety with this ones base embossing in a Qt. but I think it's just a typo.

At the same yardsale I got this J. Walker's vegetable bitters also for a buck.  I thought it could be a repro but then why would anyone repro such a plain bottle.  I did a search on this site and found it was real.  I have to agree with Guntherhess though that these things look much cruder than their age.  This one has whittle and the mouth is real lopsided.

Not bad for a buck each! You did good - Obi-wan has taught you well!

Hello Steve , this is a pretty common bottle in my area, last one I seen sold here locally was for ten bucks.  I have always heard this bottle referred to as a J. Walker's  Vinegar Bitters. Are you sure Vegetable Bitters is correct for this bottle? Not saying you are wrong, just want to know for sure exactly what it is.  I have to say that the bottle you have there looks quite a bit older and a bit cruder than the ones I have though. Yours is the first I have seen that the top is made differently from all the other I have ever seen, that is what makes me think it is a bit older than the ones I have.

Nice jars for a buck, good finds. You mentioned the Vinegar Bitter's looking older than it's age.I have dug those along with civil war era bottles so I am sure they go back to the 1860's atleast. They are not at all rare, but that one is really clean and will look great on the shelf. Thanks for posting,Doug

Thanks guys for the replies, that's interesting Doug.  L.C. your right - it's Vinegar Bitters, don't know where I got the vegetable from?
