kewl beans. i live about a 20 minute drive from the brewery here in eastern pa. taken the tour of the factory a couple times during my drinking days. really a great story of american business. they are still family owned and operated. when i was there 20 years ago they still uitilized one ( yes one ), bottling machine, and had to change setups to switch from bottles to cans. after the tour you could party in the brewery bar and usually one the Yuengling clan was around to shake hands. did i mention the old man had all daughters ???  and yes it was during prohibition that they branched out into sodas, milk, and ice cream. they now sub contract some of their brewing to other facilities. original brewery built into the side of a hill in Pottsville and large caves were dug by hand from the back of the brewery into the mountain to store the beer back in the day.

I took a tour about 3 years ago. A nice small brewery. They only allow you 2 beers to taste test these days.
The stained glass ceiling above the brew kettle was a nice unexpected surprise for me. They sent Winner Beer to the Whitehouse the day after prohibition was lifted... even though it takes 30 days to brew beer. These days, that would have caused a problem for a company!
Here's another site with info on the brewery. http://yuenglingbrewery.blogspot.com/2009/01/site-to-see-part-1.html
Incidentally, I have a cat named Yuengling... one leg's black & one's tan.

Here's the ceiling:

I never heard of this brand of beer 'till I moved down here.  I tried it once, and I must say, I like it.  I agree, ranks right up there with Sam Adams boston lager, and I love most of the Sam Adams line.

I think Henry Weinhard's did kind of the same thing, but with root beer.  That was good root beer. But the plant was closed in 1999 when Miller was bought out.
