Little Davis & Black master ink. I didn't notice this until I was resetting the size of the pic of the lip but it looks like there are still some seeds under that droopy lip. [;)]

I think it's interesting with old quality glass like the olive greens that they can clean up pretty good without having to tumble them. Paul

Jim,

Thats a really odd color on that utility sort of a deep yellow with very little amber if any. Not a color often seen in pontiled utilties. The base with the small dot in the center of the pontil is not typical of Baltimore made utilties. I would think its more likely a jersey or Philly produced piece. But I wouldn't 100 percent rule out Baltimore. If you are coming to the Baltimore bottle show next month I'd like to get the chance to see it in person.

baltbottles
02-15-2008, 03:35 PM
Ok here are some pictures of a few colored pontils. I decided to go for unembossed bottles probably blown at Baltimore area Glass Houses.

Chris

First picture is of a pure green shouldered umbrella ink. This mold shows up quite regulary in Baltimore privies and comes in most of the normal baltimore colors though I have yet to see one in a sapphire blue.

This is of a very large snuff in a light yellow olive. This one was blown in a dip mold with beveled corners to form the body. I've dug many examples of this mold around Baltimore all broken except this example. They are very early circa 1810ish.

This is a pair of quart sizes porters blown in a 3 part mold These come in an array of colors in cluding the pure green and deep copper puce seen here. Other colors I know of are a pale apple green a deep cherry puce and a yellow topaz.

This is a pair of pint sized porters one in a brite yellow green blown in a 3 part mold circa 1845-50 and the other is an open pontiled dip molded example in a plae apple green color circa 1835-45. Both of these molds can be found in many exciting colors ranging from aqua to grape puce.

And finally a group of 6 pontiled utilties. All most likely blown in Baltimore from 1835-1855.

Chris -
How scarce are those porters - I'm assuming that certain colors are much harder to find than others, but are there some that you all find often? If it's not way out of my price range, I'd love to find one at the Baltimore show.

LOL Jim,

It amazes me that someone would think that they have an "only one made". I would think if that was the case, John would have kept his one bottle for himself lol Now of course there are some "only ones known" bottles out there, but for someone to really believe there was an only made, I guess that speaks for itself.

Don- I got mine from a local collector here in Missouri who's had it for several years.

Chris- Those are some real beauties as always!!!
