All of these were found on the bottom of New England rivers. If only I was better at researching them, My wife just got me Blocks book but the going is slow.

Does anyone know why there would be so many marbles in the rivers? -Julie

Maybe the fact that a boy cannot pass a body of water without throwing something into it. ....that probably includes the marbles in his pocket.

Right!....or good slingshot ammo too. (Probably after they tossed the iron pontiled soda in to shoot at)[:D]

I am gonna go with Joe and Bostaurus on this one as all were found in either underwater dumps or in popular swimming holes, maybe they had them in their shorts when they jumped in. The 50 or so I recovered this summer were all under a foot bridge and mixed in with bottles and coins from the 1850's. This shot is my first batch of recoveries from this past summer, all were found in the same area.
