i've been warned about trying to clean it myself, so i'm sending it out to get done.

these are as scarce as hen's teeth around here so i don't want to be the one to
make a mistake trying to clean it. looks like very soft glass....

That's a dang good bottle! Believe it or not I normally don't like squat sodas, but I love the base on this one!

Nice bottle . But seems odd to be open pontil with a blob top and not a single taper top. Are there many open pontil blob top bottles ?

I would consider it a fluke. Its an 1850s soda that the blower just happened to use a strange glass tiped pontil instead of the normal iron pontil rod.True early open pontiled sodas tend to have a smaller lighter form with a sharp single tapered lip and have either a true blow pipe open pontil or more of a sand chip type pontil.

Thanks Chris. Guess that does make it as scarce as hens teeth Jim. Congrats.

i'm with ya chris, it's odd. the locals around here are saying there is only one other example they know of. notice how it seems to have the pontil " flake " that seems to occur on medicines when the pontil snaps off?? thanks for your input.

Killer bottle, Jim. That is one of the gnarliest pontils I have ever seen, especially on a soda. Glad you got it. ~Jim
