I am admittedly NOT knowledgeable in this arena (sodas and poisons still confuse me:)) but isn't that a peened out Steele's?

It does look like a slugged out Powell's. I did find that exact example in Odell's with the long slugplate S, or it appears so.

There are a number of bottles from this mold; some blue and some green. The Seitz bottles do not count so ignore them, but all of the others match:

Todd

Thanks I belive it to be this J Donnell's the more flat bottom and taper top http://www.sodasandbeers.com/SABShowBottle.aspx?Bottle=50834AA&Firm_Number=50834

As the steel's has small letters and the powell Has mineral water embossed on one panel http://www.sodasandbeers.com/SABShowBottle.aspx?Bottle=55827AA&Firm_Number=55827

not that they couldn't change the plates.. the donnell just looks the most correct as well as the one embossed premium mineral waters..

Also note that it has a fluted pattern around the neck and the donnel's looks to have the same !!

This was dug in california..

I have heard this in the past, but I suspect it is from Northern New Jersey. I have not found any proof that this bottle was Mt. Vernon. The name is very rare and there were not many listed in the Census records.

Todd, I have dug an intact example and several broken examples in Mt. Vernon, Ohio as have other diggers if this helps.

Thanks, I'll hone my research in that direction.
