Jim Schmidt's post on Facebook about Mortimore made me think of a pontiled bottle that I dug in Sacramento many years ago. It was about 5-6" tall, as I recall, and maybe 6 sided. The embossing was on five panels and read, D. Mortimore's/ Great/American/Fever & Ague/Tonic. I have not seen nor heard of another example. Can anyone shed some light on it?

I have heard of several different versions of that bottle but havent seen one lately.
Here is an 1851 ad for his more common product.

Well isn't that interesting lol I'm actually trying to buy one of those from a guy who has one. I'll let you know if I end up getting it. Besides the one i'm trying to buy, yours is only the second one I have ever heard of. It's a beauty for sure. He also has a Mortimers Rheumatic Compound and Blood Purifier St Louis Mo. Both it and the D. Mortimores Great American Fever & Ague Tonic St Louis Mo are pontiled with tapered tops. Both appear to be 10 sided too. Killer looking bottles. What ever happened to yours Mike?

It is till around locally. I never sold it but an ex digging friend took it and that's the last I saw of it. I dug it in the mid-1970s and gave it to him to clean and that's it. He and I DO NOT see eye to eye.

It would be a great one to get back Mike if it was ever possible. That's an extremely rare St. Louis med. I hope i'm able to get the one i'm after, we'll see how it goes. [:)]

Getting it back isn't likely. It came from one of a dozen privies that we dug from a construction site that I got permission to dig on after hours. The entire situation is sad.

Here is the other side of the D. MORTIMORE'S GREAT AMERICAN FEVER & AGUE TONIC ST. LOUIS MO. This is an aqua pontiled medicine with a lot going for it: 10-sided, embossed with the proprietor, product, and origin, and the word "AMERICAN".
