It looks like a little liquor jug.

Hi Buck,
The only reason I know what it is, is because I found one recently and had to do research on it. Its called a batter jug. Although thats what its called I personally cant see how it was convienent to use. I have no idea of value. Hope that helps.

Hey you guys,

I think it more likely a syrup jug.

I always associated batter jugs with this style:

So - I agree with you surfaceone. I agree with your evaluation. I also like that batter jug you pictured - is that in your collection. I am going to wave the picture - if i can - to take it to NY for analysis of my jug man there.

I always thought those were molasses jugs. I think I got that from my grandmother.

I always thought those were molasses jugs.

Same here; that's what we've always called them here in Quebec...

I have seen jugs in this form with a local merchant and "wine & spirits" debossed on them, I would guess they were a reasonably common form of north american made utility jug. the tops are always fragile though.

The stenciled or labeled ink jugs that I have seen have all been straight sided, and less rounded in the shoulders. I'm not saying this couldn't be an ink jug, but it doesn't look like the ones that I have seen.
