Wow, that's a nice one. I don't think I've ever heard of those before.

Yeah I've seen the Victoria/Vancouver Botanic Beverages jugs like that, but I've never seen an Esquimalt Brewery one. Never even heard of the Esquimalt Brewery.

Bit of a mystery company. Not in business for long, or may have not gone into production. At least that's what I've heard from Vancouver Island collectors. I've not done my own research, however.

For something that high-end it might be worth contacting Maple Leaf Auctions. I know they sell a lot of pricier Canadian bottles and stoneware. Seems safer than something like Ebay although I don't personally have any experience with them.

Did a little poking around online. The Esquimalt Brewing Co. was just one brewing enterprise belonging to the Fairall family (brewed in England, Ontario, British Columbia, and perhaps other places). By the time the Great War broke out, German brewers had exacted dominance over Vancouver Island. The Fairalls brewed in the English tradition of porters and ales and saw the war as a marketing opportunity that played out along patriotic lines. The German froth would have been lager, a style of beer which did not become the dominant one in Canada until after the Second World War in the form of Labatt Blue, Molson Canadian, Carling Black Label and O'Keefe's Old Vienna. The Esquimalt Brewing adverts are from 1914-15.

Few more details. The Esquimalt Brewing Co., Ltd. was incorporated four weeks into the war, with the objective of the new corporate entity to assume the brewing operations of the Esquimalt Brewing Co. This was a typical legal move, especially during an era of heightened prohibitionist agitation. The brewing burned down in the summer of 1916. I'm not sure if it was rebuilt.
