Found this Sunday close to Wilmington NC. It's open pontil and mold so it's was made by mouth blown glass into a mold. Never seen anything like the dice patterns on front three panels has anyone else? The bottle is 4 3/4 inch tall and 2 inches wide. Front panel has QT at bottom and back panel has 293 on bottom. Any ideas anyone? Found in a hole with horse shoes, bridal bit, two heart locks and large brass skeleton key. I was metal detecting a very old house site. Any ideas anyone?

Hard to tell, but it looks like the mold may have been repaired and/or embossing peened out.

Molds got used enough and parts of same wore out and were replaced or repaired sometimes. You'll see what look like keyhole marks on some bottles and that was a form of repair. We used to have a retired Corning worker on here who could explain it all well. All embossing was sometimes "peened out" of a mold. Say the manufacturer went out of business but someone else wanted that form bottle. They'd use a tool to remove the embossing, or maybe a manufacturer changed addresses. They could peen out the old address. basically hammer or file it out of the mold.

I believe it to be an European cologne bottle from 1860-1880 or so. The pontil style is classic European and the bottle is similar to the Farina cologne bottles that surface here in the US quite a bit-a lot of companies copied their design. Obviously the mold has been modified quite a bit to obscure some embossing that was originally in the mold.

Farina cologne bottles...6-sided bottles in clear (flint) glass with solid rod pontils. I wasn't saying the markings were the same, just that they were identical in form and that is a good indicator of where the bottle is from and what it contained.

Was a 6 sided clear glass with solid rod pontils only produced in Europe ? Any chance this could be American made?

This bottle could also have been blown into a wood mold which would break down with use (ie burn)there is also evidence of embossing being removed or a flat plate put in the mold to cover the embossing
