I visited the current visitors page of this forum, and noticed a lot of bots checking out members profiles, media, conversations, etc. What's the deal with that?

Those would be web crawlers/spiders. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_crawler In order for a search engine to include a page in its results, the web crawler first has to visit the page and see what's on it.
