I figure this can is worthy of its own thread , found it the other day , was poking around a wooded area I've been to many times before . was a small area of rusted oil /food cans and such , saw something partly visible under some leaves and though it might be a can . was shocked to see it was a flat top 7 up can from the early 60's with nearly full and originally colour on one side

found alot of 7 up cans over the years but never found this can so not entirely familiar with it but I believe its a good one , know that it dates from the early 60's , flat top 12 oz so fairly early in terms of soda cans .

the can itself is in relatively good condition for being outdoors so long , the colour doesn't seem to have faded at all , the orange and green is fully bright . is obviously some rust , especially on the side which faced up when it was in the ground , also rusted on a lot of the wording on back . but can read that can is from dominion seven up limited Toronto Canada

slogan on can read " fresh up with seven up " " you like it , it likes you "

its the 12 oz can , its bigger than a normal soda can . not sure how common or rare it is , really can't recall seeing one before other than online , know that it was featured in the collectable soda cans price guide but can't recall what he mentioned about it

Excellent find, it's the second version of the first generation with metallic green, the first one has black stripes.

I noticed the green had a very metallic look to it that I hadn't seen on 7 up cans before

some updated pictures , you can see the front still has a lot of original colour , so does back but more rusted , still the condition isn't that bad considering its been outdoors so long and to have survived all the spring thaws and rain since the 60's isn't that bad

Yeah wow that's a great find, never seen a can from that era anywhere close to that good condition outside. Even the more recent steel cans are almost never that nice anymore. I wonder how it was preserved for so long. Buried deep in the mud maybe?

I found it in a wooded area , not exactly sure what persevered it . it was covered mostly by leaves and the area is fairly dry . it was well hidden , only a small portion of can was visible when I first saw it

the condition of cans can really vary depending on where there found and how much exposure they've got .

It could have been a "late throw", that is, dumped many years after it was new. We find late throw bottles fairly often in dumps .

not likely the stuff nearby was fairly old , rusted food cans and oil cans , it was near an old fence , like some stuff had been dumped near it , it had all been there for a while
