I dug up this E.B. Shuttleworth Chemical Company Toronto bottle a couple days ago in an old farm site dump . I wasn’t able to find much about it on Google , other than the history on the Chemist E.B Shuttleworth himself , and a couple of pictures of the same bottle that’s it . I was just wondering it’s approximate age ?. I was thinking early 1900’s ?. And also was wondering the rarity ( if any ) and an approximate value ?. Would never want to sell it , as it is going in my collection, was just wondering is all !. Thanks EC1C0C98-B50A-42FF-8E79-B97EB83559B8.jpeg

Wow that's a stunner! Date-wise I'd say probably 1890-1920. I don't know about value, but I can guarantee that it's got some value at least. I'd be pretty surprised if the value was anywhere under $50, but beyond that I have no idea. Canada doesn't have all that many cobalt meds, especially with such nice pictorial embossing. I don't think it's that common because I've never seen one before now, although I also don't live in Toronto so they might not have traveled far out of the city.

Early 1900s. E.B. Shuttleworth was the first dean of and early instructor at the Ontario College of Pharmacy. His operation of the pharmacy didn't suit some board members, so the turfed him. He had his hands in many commercial pies, so the blow wasn't as bad as it seems. He moved into manufacturing highly refined/pure drugs, with this bottle being an example of that business venture. Made sense, too, since Shuttleworth had a ready-made market in the thousands of druggists he had personally trained at the O.C.P.
