1930's Dr. Pepper help

I recently acquired what I believe to be a full Dr. Pepper from the 20's to 30's, the only problem is that there's a little more than just Dr. Pepper inside. At first I thought it was just pieces of the cork cap floating around, but upon closer inspection it was a large clump of what looks like mold/algae. Has anyone ever heard of this kind of stuff happening? The cap does look original and fits the era of the bottle, but I can't help but wonder if maybe somebody refilled it later or it wasn't sealed thoroughly from the factory. Any help/knowledge would be appreciated.

Ewww, right? Would it completely devalue it if you had a new vintage cap & cleaned that nasty stuff out, filled it with dr.Pepper and recapped it with a vintage cap? Cuz I would be tempted, if it were mine. I have 1 in the other room- an older medicine bottle with balsam- growing like that and don’t know what to do with it. Inn the past I have dumped them just because didn’t want to watch that Petri dish, in my 1880 leaded glass curio Buffett with the lion heads and feet! But outside of a personal collection, what does that do to value? I don’t miss the nasty hairy blob that came out of that bottle...

Because the volume of the drink went down, probably what happened was the cork dried out allowing air to get into the drink, and also mold. It's probably a clump of mold you're seeing in the drink.

Most are debossed, meaning, the name is molded below the surface of the glass. There are embossed versions, where the name is on top of the glass surface, but I’ve never seen one up close. As for empty or full, I always empty them and save the cap, especially if they’re skunky inside. I wouldn’t pay a premium for a full bottle generally. It’s all about the glass to me. They cost more to ship, and weigh heavy on your display shelf. But if you like it, keep it original!

I have loads of full acl soda. After time their seal gets compromised. After that happens air can get in and cause the soda to mold. You could clean it out or not. I have for now left mine the way they are. Happens to them all eventually.

Your the guy to ask... do u ever get a fresh cap, refill and cap it, or would that be ethically wrong ? Would that totally devalue it? I guess if it were in someone’s private collection, no harm because if you ever got thirsty.... not irreversible, anyway.

When I collected ACL sodas and had a matching cap I would put new product in them and then cap it. It really made them look even nicer.
