I just got started collecting old bottles, along with other trinkets, and am looking to find a place of like minded people that I could learn from. I am a teacher and really enjoy bringing artifacts from different periods to my students so they can somehow connect abstracts to tangibles, whatever they might be. Education is the art of connecting, and I am hoping to do the same here.
Glad to have found such a place of knowledge.

Thank you @ Robby and @mailman. Besides any bottle that I happen to like,
what are the most collectible ones to have in a collection?

Some go for color or age. Others have a family history associated with a brewery or bottler. Some collect beer or sodas, inks or storage jars. It is a personal preference. I collect local bottles. Take your time. A collection should have a direction. I did not in the beginning and now wish I had. I used to buy anything glass that caught my eye. All good, live and learn.

I look for examples that have cities/towns/state included in their embossing. I do specialize in historic antique embossed beer bottles, which can be seen in the beer bottle library linked in my signature. Collect what you like, like what you collect, remember with silicon being the 8th(?) most common element these are basically trash to most of the world, so they are just stuff. The real treasure is the people so collect friends along the way.

I happen to fall in to the digging and finding category. There is a forum page on this site with a broad range of what folks like us do. I think uncle Bruce somes it up. We are all over the map,but someone could usually help. There are some very patient people who don't mind repeating info for us,(newbies) giddy up .
