Dad’s Root Beer makes its debut in St. Louis in November of 1941. Dad’s Root Beer Bottling Company, per the ad is located at 1822 S. 12th Street. This is the same address as the Ritz Beverage Co. Ritz has purchased a franchise for Dad’s and also has a franchise for Clicquot Club Soda. Ritz also has their own line of beverages. I have a copy of the ad and a paper label version of the soda that shows the address.
I believe the Dad’s Root Beer Company was formed around 1938. Dad’s Root Beer is franchised out of Chicago, Illinois. Here is a trade ad from 1956.
There was a promotion in the late 1940’s or sometime in the 1950’s for a free Helio-Jet with a purchase of 6-bottle carton of Dad’s. So, I was able to find the little metal toy quite easily, I already had the ad from long ago.
I have several bottles to share, nothing fancy or rare here, a fun bottle to collect and most can be bought at a reasonable price. The Junior size bottles date 1949 & 1951, both Big Jr. bottles are dated 1954. The Mama size is dated 1948. I still need a Papa size. Only 4 of the bottles are St. Louis marked, the paper label, both amber Junior Size, and one of the clear glass King Size Jr. bottles. The red and yellow Big Jr. is from Flat River, Mo. And the Mama size is from Portland, Oregon. All the other bottles do not have a bottler mentioned.
The clear glass bottles date from left to right, 1953,1956,1956,1961 and 1959
The draft style bottles date in order 1976, 1972 and 1976, the newest bottle I have is dated 1978.
