There are a lot of ads in newspapers.com. The bulk were in California and North Carolina. Looked like it was a NC product. All were in the 1900-1910ish era.

K…. I paid for a subscription, thinking it sounds cool and that I would use that…. Can’t navigate it too well and I only get access to a bit of it. Those guys and worthlesspoint!

That's a shame.

My late mother found a cougar-killed deer in her backyard right next to the garage about a dozen years ago. I used to stay in the shop at the back of the lot on weekends during the last few years that I worked at Fort Lewis. (To be closer, I had transferred from a different federal position in the wake of my father's death.) After learning of the deer kill and also hearing some heavy thumps on the roof of the shop that had awakened me late one night, I became quite cautious about going out into the yard to piss after dark, as the door of the shop is only about forty feet from where the deer died.

I took the above photo in the backyard near the end of July this year. The thermometer is mounted to the corner of the shop mentioned above. Unfortunately, I haven't seen this nice guy since end of August. Even though I hunt, I like to see deer in the neighborhood--I could never shoot one of them; it would feel like betraying their trust. His twin brother disappeared last year, and I hope neither a cat nor hunter nor driver killed this Columbia Black-tailed Deer.

I own a couple of mountains in the wilderness of the trinity alps- it’s a wildlife refuge with the only water within 20 miles-a creek that runs thru it. I’ve gold panned in that creek since I was a kid, and never thought anything about it. There are cliffs on Either side of it. But 1 time, I saw a fresh cat print, big as my head…. And having an exotic cat cattery, there was no mistaking what it was. I started packing my 357 out there, that day…. Till now. I started paying close attention! And soon noticed a deer, dragged into the brush next to the water- and 2 more deer, also dragged a good distance, but all within a city blocks distance? And all along the creek. I camped in the rv, out there that summer and no tracks that evening but in the morning, a cat had circled the rv 3 times during the night!

I respect the cats- I’m on their land that they let me pay the taxes on…. Would hate to have to shoot one. But if it’s ever the cat or me? I wouldn’t think twice about it!

I guess I’d rather have well fed lions out there!
