This bottle has been in a box of bottles from an estate sale, for months. I have not even put water to it, because when I look it it, it makes me a little sick, so I walk out and shut the door! Finally, over the weekend, I actually picked it up and considered getting out my Drexel and a new diamond blade, and cutting off the neck, at the top of that black zip tie. About that time, I thought “I don’t have a clue what kind of bottle this is”All I know is it was broken like this when I got it. So tried to find ANYTHING like it. Google lense showed me target balls, fishing floats, weather vein balls, Christmas ornaments…. But nothing like this. Any thoughts on this, and should I cut the lip off it?

It was probably originally wrapped in wicker or something similar. You can keep it as a glass novelty (I have a shelf of those), they make good conversation starters.

I wouldn't do anything to it. Put the stopper in it as it looks like it would support the stopper. A display with the injury away from the viewer.

It's a toilet float. At least I think it is, and the opinion seems to be shared by a lot of other people online. If you really want one you can purchase an intact one now for $45 (I personally would not spend that on one of these) https://www.ebay.com/itm/313107221642
The stopper is not original in that case.
Looks like this one never made it into the water closet. I have to admit that is an item I had never seen before. I remember metal floats when I was a kid but never a glass one!!!!

I believe you are correct.

Epoxy and alcohol dye to tint aqua. Cast a silicone mold of the good side. Tube silicone is a good mold. Grease up the bottle well so it doesn’t stick. You can free mold it as the epoxy starts to thicken. Mold it like clay. I remove the crushed glass and cracks with a dremel so it looks clean or it will be seen in the finish.
