I bid on a bottle last week. I watched it for 6 days with no bids placed. I had a low max bid but didn't feel the need to raise seeing as nobody was bidding against me. At 4 seconds left there were 3 more bids placed (auto bid) to just outbid me by $.50. Of course it was a private listing, bidders identities protected. I figure I got sniped. I found the same bottle again and realized it is the same seller selling the bottle he won back from me! I had a feeling this was going on but had no proof, now I am sure of it. Crazy crap. Not sure I want to bid again if he is playing games like this.

I stopped looking at E-Bay years ago because of the scammers and bad descriptions. More fun at Bottle Shows anyway, and you can see what you are buying. Do you follow any of the on-line bottle auctions?

Perhaps the winning snipe bidder didn't follow through with payment, hence re-listing? Did you try to message the seller directly?

Sure if this was the case he should have contacted the next-closest bidder...certainly seems fishy... but there are a lot of odd people out there and logic need not apply.

Haven't bought anything off eBay in years, but just for fun, I'd be tempted to put in the same bid you did last time and see if the same thing happens again.

Yes I do but I like the bottle shows much better. I am old school and love the meet and greet aspect of it all.

I thought about that also being a possibility. I posted no names, I mean I want the bottle. Jay just sold one for just under $17 so I think a higher max bid this time. Will be interesting to see if it does happen again. No bids yet. I will let you know how I fair.

I hate when I watch something all week, then figure I'd snip at end but forget to snipe & see nobody bid at all, nothing, nada, no interest from anybody. So they relist & I just go ahead & bid right away figuring nobody else wants it anyways. But then as soon as I bid the bidding goes Crazy now everybody wants it? where were these People last Week????????? LEON.

If there were a fictitious high bid place and then a claim of being unpaid... now know what your high bid would have been. If the fictitious bid had not been placed you only would have had to beat the under bidder to your bid. That is usually quite a bit lower. The snake owner would then try to get you to cough up your high bid when in reality you only had to beat the under bidder, which the vast majority of the time is a lot lower. When you point that out to the snake you'll never be bothered again. I usually just ignore such second chance offers. They're bogus.

I know it happens to me all the time. Nobody is interested until the end anyway. They can't man up and bid with the big boys. I just missed a great local stoneware jug I was watching. The starting bid was a super low $29.50. Nobody bid on it so it was relisted. Unfortunately it is priced at buy it now $295.00. I got side tracked the day it ended and missed out (not my girlfriends fault) she can be very distracting...lol!

The schill bidding game has always been a problem and will continue on ebay as they never seem to concerned over it even though they claim they are concerned. As long as they get theirs is the only concern for them. Sniper bids is the way nowdays. I always preferred buy it now and that was what I used on my sales when I was on the site, people still are intrigued by the auction setting thinking they will always get the great deal at a low price but usually end up spending more then my buy it now prices for identical items in the same or better condition, baffling as it seems.
