Intact Paper Labels, Pre-pro Beers, and more

I had an decent day digging for antique and vintage Michigan bottles on Friday. I got bottles from Detroit, Flint, and Port Huron. Most of the bottles are common, but it was still fun. My favorite is the American Brewing Company beer from Detroit, Michigan. The company went through many name changes, but was called the American Brewing Company from 1901 to 1919. They were known for their Cream Top beer. This bottle is from around 1915, and features an eagle and a shield. My next favorite find is the Cooks Extracts bottle from the 1920’s manufactured in Detroit, Michigan. This bottle still has the original paper label as it was buried in sandy dirt which saved it. The company started in 1918, and was known for it’s vanilla extracts. The company still exists today. The C. Kern Brewing Company bottle is from around 1915, and the company was in business from 1884 to 1919 under that name (even though it was in business before and after under other names). The Port Huron company was known for their larger beer, and Cream of Michigan beer. They operated on River Street. The monogrammed Pfeiffer bottle is from around 1915 as well. The company was established in 1889, and began brewing in 1892. The Detroit company was known for their Wurzburger Beer, and traditional larger called Pfeiffer’s Famous Beer. The Flint Howes milk bottle is from the early 1930’s. I believe the company started in 1931. There is not a whole lot of info on this one. The Freeman Dairy began in 1914, and was likely the most common milk in Flint. The company was operated on 1511 North Saginaw Street, and was started by Leonard Freeman. The P.H. Kling bottle is from around 1915. It was made after the Pure Drug and Food Act of 1906, as it says “pure without drugs or poison” on the base. The company operated from 1884 to 1919 under that name in Detroit. Phillip Kling was born in Germany and made Pilsner, Gold Seal Export, Extra Pale Ale, and Porter. The Detroit Brewing Company bottle is common, but there isn’t much info on it. I’m hoping to pull some Hutchinson or Blob beers out of the muck, as many of the pre-pro beers are fairly close in age.

The American Brewery produced non alcoholic Beer During Prohibition & lasted until 1939. That Cooks is nice to find with a nice intact Label. Congrats. LEON.
