Found this today at a thrift store, not much of a jar person but absolutely love the handle, and the way the light plays with the label cutout. It’s my first ground-lip piece in the collection as well. Any idea what this type of jar was used for?

I'd assume it was used for Tobacco. Why? There is a exact same duplicate of this Jar from Detroit embossed with GLOBE TOBACCO COMPANY DETROIT MICHIGAN. Even has same lid & handle. LEON.

Here’s a photo for anyone interested, more info is available on the Hemingray site. There was an embossed and slick version of this model but both were made by Hemingray, it seems that Globe switched to the barrel design around 1883-4 as they’d patented the new design in late 82.

Looks like I was right but I never seen the non embossed paper label version so that's a Interesting new fact to learn. Thanks, Leon.
