Looking for help on this one. Interested in what it might have held. I'd date to around the 1880s or 1890s based on what was dug around it. Smooth base. About 7.5" tall.

I had a knowledgeable collector suggest it was a peppermint oil bottle. The color is right, but it looks like a lot of those had spouts. The ring on the shoulder kind of makes me think pepper sauce or citrate.

Either way, it was the find of the day for me on my last dig. Beautiful bottle. Any thoughts or input appreciated.

That's a nice one, and a tough one to identify. I've never seen one quite like it. I'm wondering if it might be continental European, and maybe some sort of fancy hair product? It has a vague resemblance to some hair product bottles I've seen.

Probably a Tilden & Co. Extract Bottle. See 1st pic with label. The ring around the shoulder is a characteristic of Tilden bottles. The pint sized bottles come in at least 3 colors (see attached). Dark Amber, Cobalt blue (like yours), and Cornflower/Light blue. The Dark Amber is embossed TILDEN on the bottom. The other two are not embossed but have the same ring on the shoulder. A nice color in excellent condition might bring you $30 - $50 in today's market.

Mayhem,

Great lineup you posted. Thanks for the response. I think you solved it. Mine is going on display in front of a window.

Here is an amber machine made Tilden (base embossed) I recently dug out of a cistern.

Mayhem, is the amber you posted machine made?
