New member finding lots of neat older bottles

I found this group while trying to find some information about some obviously older glass bottles we found on our new farm. We were out investigating our new property on the Eastern shore of VA and sadly found what appears to be an area that was used to deposit trash some time ago. We found this bottle along with many others (clorox, noxema, listerine, absorbine, Pepsi, coke, juice, milk bottles along with various alcohol bottles. This was a pretty one which is why I posted it. My daughter has taken a bit of interest in them and we are displaying them in her room as we clean them. As I learn more about how to post and ask appropriate questions I will be posting more. Thanks for what appears to be a pretty cool forum.

You said sadly found an area used to dump Trash. Most people in here would say happily found an area used to dump Trash. The Milk Bottles sound like they could be Interesting, Got any Pics of the Milk Bottles? ACL colored painted soda Bottles & old rusty Beer cans can be collectible & sometimes valuable if you find any of those.. Good luck & Welcome to the site. LEON.

Thanks Leon! It’s funny that you say that because when we came across it we were sad someone used it as a dump, but now are enjoying cleaning it up and finding treasures together! The milk bottles are quart bottles from Walkers folly farm in Melfa, VA (which is where we are) I have special interest in them and can’t wait to research the dairy because we raise dairy goats!
I don’t have any pics of them yet since I haven’t cleaned them. This coke bottle is the only other one I have in my phone but there were a few Pepsi bottles and a Brownies bottle that had some “painting” on it. Most of them have raised lettering on them, but I remember the Pepsi one and the Brownies one because I was trying to be careful to clean it but not rub it off. I’ll get some pics and try to upload when I have better service. It’s a little slow here

These are the Clorox and Brownie bottle. It looks like one of the Clorox bottles used a cork versus a screw top cap like the other one.

Looks to date from around maybe 1940's to 1960's possibly. I've seen the Brownie Bottle before, I think a few different states Bottled it. On Bottles like the Brownie known as ACL's (applied color label) if they come out of wet mud & have fresh wet mud/dirt on them best to let them dry out for a few weeks before trying to clean. This will help preserve the colored label & keep it from rubbing off in the cleaning. Cokes like yours can be dated by the saying on them, like Patent Office both side or D-Patent on one side or Dec25 1923 Christmas Coke or Nov 16th 1915 Coke. A exact date is usually on them also as seen in this Pic. LEON.

So it sounds like people dig in these areas to find the bottles? Like take a shovel and really dig? All of these bottles were found laying on the top of the ground or maybe partially covered just due to time. Obviously consolidated areas of trash. We found the household ones on the back line of a rather large property and the alcohol ones in clusters around trees. Must have been some good times back when.
Anyway from reading some other threads it sounds like it may be worth actually digging where we are finding these bottles?
