I have a couple of local Hutchinson bottles that am considering tumbling. They still have the stoppers.
Should I remove the stoppers? Try to tumble the bottles with the stoppers in them ?
Tumble just the outside if I can?
Or just not tumble them?

Those bottles don't look like they need to be tumbled. I think they look perfectly fine the way they are. Most any collector would love to have bottles that look like those.

As someone who tumbles I agree with Bruce. Those look to be pretty clean already. As with anything though it comes down to personal preference. I always cut the stoppers out when I tumble but I’ve heard you can push the stopper down and tumble without any damage (I have not tried this though)you can then pull it back up when you are done.

Thanks, sometimes I do over do it but after all the time and effort I put into building a tumbler I really enjoy using it.
It would be a quick tumble, more of a cleaning I suppose, probably about 2 days. Roy

That is interesting. Thank you.

I take the stoppers out too when I tumble bottles. I’ve come up with a system where I’m usually able to save the stopper if the person wants it back or I have replacements for the ones that don’t make it. I agree a 2 day polish would shine those babies right up.

I always take them out. If the rubber is deteriorated they come out more easily. If it's got nice solid good rubber don't think you'll ever just pull it out. In that case I wouldn't tumble a bottles inside if I couldn't pull the stopper out of it. If it can be done with it left inside I never tried & would be afraid of some kind of damage if I did. As others said, they look good how they are. LEON.

IMO They look pretty darn clean to me. I wouldn’t tumble them at all. Nice bottles!

UPDATE,
After looking closer at the stopper springs I realized both were cracked badly on the top radius and would most likely break if I tried to work with them anyway. I pulled them out as far as I could and clamped them in a bench vice, pulled and twisted the bottles and easily removed both stoppers which broke but did no damage. The bottles are both happily spinning in the tumbler right now. I'll post some pictures when done.
