Toronto General Hospital Condiments Jar made in England

not a bottle but still neat , another find from a local online auction . noticed this unique item which i had not ever seen anything similar .

it was referrer to as a condiments jar or pot but not sure if thats its exact name or not . its fairly small in size , only a couple inches tall . features floral artwork on the sides and lid .

Marked on the bottom as being made by Ridgways Shelton England , i though it might be older but apparently this marking dates from the 30's > 40's .

and says made exclusively for the " Toronto General Hospital " by Cassidys Limited . which was a canadian company that supplied hotels and restaurants with things mainly china/dishware

Toronto General Hospital is a large hospital in toronto , been there for a long time but never seen stuff marked as being made for the hospital itself .

Interesting that it looks labeled by hand instead of a stamp. Can you imagine having to write that out on a whole set of dishes?

Interesting and unique item, the hospital must have catered to the patients quite well for them to pay extra for such fancy ceramics.

i have no idea if its hand written or not , it does seem possible based on the writing style

Cool find! It's surprisingly fancy for hospital ware, usually those were marked with the hospital's name or logo and not much else. I'm guessing that the stamp on the bottom was quickly engraved by hand but that the marks weren't written onto each piece. Unusual either way, I don't remember seeing a stamp like that before. I wonder if this was part of a smaller batch of dishes that were meant for patients paying for a particularly deluxe treatment, or something along those lines.
