Is this an old onion bottle?

Just found what appears to be an old hand blown "onion" type bottle. Measures 9 3/4 tall x 6 wide. Any ideas about this one?

    Advice needed - old well

It actually could be a cistern. I just wonder how deep it actually goes though? I'd really hate to get down in there and sink up to my eyeballs lol I think I am going to get down in there at some point; like you guys say, I'll always wonder what's down there if I don't. I'll probably wait until...

    1936 TVA Franklin Roosevelt Bottle

Thanks guys. I grew up in in Tennessee and have fished below several of the TVA dams on many occasion so this bottle really speaks to me. I've read quite a bit about them now and everyone always mentions how heavy these bottles are, which is odd to me because this one is really very lightweight...

    Advice needed - old well

So our house was originally built in 1857 by people who had just came over from England with lots and lots of money; they already had family here in this area who had fought in the Revolutionary War. They were timber and cattle barons. The family mansion underwent a full restoration in 1907 by...

    1936 TVA Franklin Roosevelt Bottle

Thought I'd share a fresh addition to my collection. It's a 1936 TVA Franklin D. Roosevelt commemorative bottle. On the front side it has the face of President Franklin D. Roosevelt with the Presidential Seal(Eagle with shield and ribbon with E. Pluribus Unum). On the reverse it has a...

Straight Sided Coca Cola Question - Conyers Georgia

Thanks Screwtop, that's some great information! No wonder I couldn't find another example; I was searching for a straight sided Coca Cola bottle.

Straight Sided Coca Cola Question - Conyers Georgia

This was a recent attic find. I can't seem to find another example anywhere. Is anyone familiar with this one?

Help to identify this newly-found golden citrine bottle

Help to identify this newly-found golden citrine bottle

Thank you sunrunner and GLASSHOPPER55. I followed the link and there is some very interesting information there. From what I can gather the maltese cross mark was a type of "signature" left by certain mold makers in the St. Louis area around the turn of the century.

Help to identify this newly-found golden citrine bottle

This neat old bottle was recently found underneath an old house. The bright color of the glass is just incredible; it's a vibrant, golden citrine color and has an unusual maltese cross mark on the pontil. It measures 9 1/4 inches tall and has lots of swirls and bubbles. The mold lines do not...

Help with unknown Log Cabin bottle, variant?

Thanks Jim. I'll have to go check out that discussion on those USA bottles. In the age we live in now, reproductions are getting so good that we have to be skeptical on just about anything popping up that appears to be very rare or one of a kind. I'm just not experienced enough in the antique...

Help with unknown Log Cabin bottle, variant?

Thanks for the link! I checked out the Old Home Bitters bottles and you're right, there are some similarities. Someone put a lot of effort into producing a convincingly old-looking bottle for the sole purpose of serving as a lamp base. The indentation in my bottle could actually be there for the...

Help with unknown Log Cabin bottle, variant?

Harry, thank you for your help on this. I can feel no seam so apparently it is a tooled lip.

Help with unknown Log Cabin bottle, variant?

Lots of differing opinions here: Well I guess I'm more confused now than ever. I now have two veteran bottle collectors(one after actually seeing it in person) telling me they've never seen one in the entire decades they've collected and that it appears to be late 1800's to them, and then...

Help with unknown Log Cabin bottle, variant?

The indentation isn't thin; it's pretty much the same thickness as the rest of it. I took this bottle to a seasoned bottle collector on Monday so he could have a look at it and give me his opinion on it. He was actually pretty fascinated with it and says that he's never seen another example...
