Bill, Just to clairfy...my handle is danboone, but I go by Don. I should sign all my posts that way I guess, or I will always be Dan. :-) Anyway, I don't know about KY bottles. Have a pretty good knowledge of SC, GA and FL bottles tho. Best, Don
Bottle buddy of mine found this one in a $5 ea. barrel at a regional flea market last year. He swore the Jack Daniel on this quart couldn't be the REAL Jack. I really didn't know, but liked the bottle alot, and traded him a good SS Coke for it a bit later. Seems it is a pretty good one after...
I'm not a store seller, but have been trolling for bottles in antique malls for 30 years. Lots of factors play into this. Are you going to set up in a heavily travelled store? Will your display case be near a heavily travelled area in the store? Is it well lighted, and high enough up for folks...
Sold one of these on fleabay recently. Looked exactly like the one pictured except for being brilliant green...embossing was different on the sides from the original tho...something like 'M. Malaika & Co.' vs 'H.E. Bucklen & Co.' Never was sure about it one way or another, so let it go.
Anyone venture a guess as to the rarity/value of an Anniston Steam bottling works hutch? This is an ice blue, 7 1/2" tall bottle embossed 'Anniston Steam Bottling Works, Anniston, Ala.' in a tombstone slugplate. Has a mug base bottom. Bottle is in NM condition. Thanks!
Thank to everyone for their input. Now I will go looking thru all the references and see what's really rare out there. I guess my original question was related more toward rarity in the eyes of collectors regionally (top 25) as opposed to dollar value. I agree that lots of rare bottles aren't...
I think we all have a pretty good idea as to what the rarest bottles are from our categories of collecting, regions of the country, world, etc., but has anyone ever put together a comprehensive, comparitive reference on bottles by rarity?? I noticed an great article on the top 25 rarest Georgia...
Thanks Kate and Warren for the replies! Warren, thanks also for the additional info on William Hudson. Didn't know anything about the man except what I found in Philip Pfeiffer's book, "Pensacola Soda Water Legacy".
eBay is not for everyone. I've been at it since 1997, have 100% feedback and have done very, very well selling bottles. Sure, there are bad sellers and bad buyers out there, but a little homework will save lots of headaches later. Look at feedback whether a buyer or seller...it says alot. Use...
Sometimes you have to give up a good one to get a better one, or at least one you want worse. I did that recently when I parted with a unique amber Chero Cola bottle from Perry, FL. Many of you that follow eBay probably saw my auction for that particular bottle recently. What did I give it up...
That's easy....danboone came from the fact my 6th great grandfather was the pioneer, Daniel Boone. My lineage....Daniel Boone, Daniel Morgan Boone, Ratcliff Boone, Joseph R. Boone, Daniel Boone, Bertha Daniel Boone (maternal grandmother), my father, then me. Happy New Year everyone!
A few more details....bottle is 12 1/2" tall and 5" in diameter. It's very early ABM, has '851' over '9' on the bottom and the inside of the lip is ground to take a ground glass stopper.
