    After tumbling cleaning

I realize this is months old, but for follow on readers: Some folks use waterpiks to flush out the black spots. Since I do my post tumble cleaning in my backyard I use a high pressure water ****** on my garden hose and it does the trick. You just have to figure out the angle of the pocket...

stopple finger marks on base of finished bottle.

Not sure what a air rubbing wheel is but I happened to have two cloth buffing wheels for my dremel tool. I followed the same pattern of tumbling by buffing the marks with 1500 Silicate Carbon mud and washed it clean then Aluminum Oxide mud. Marks completely disappeared and glossy glass was...

stopple finger marks on base of finished bottle.

Is there a tip or trick for dealing with the stopple marks left on the bottle base after a tumble? The marks I'm talking about is where the glass was sheltered by the fingers during the tumble so that the glass did not get polished. Example is this flask I just finished tumbling. You can see...

    Average tumble time with 1500?

Thanks Guys. New question: I have read/seen two methods for protecting the pontil scar during tumbling of open pontil bottles. One involves using small rubber balls with the stopple, and the other involves making and attaching an adapter to the stopple. Was curious if anyone has tried...

    Average tumble time with 1500?

Pulled the soda out yesterday after four days on low speed and I was pretty impressed. The bottle was pretty sick going in and probably needed 1200 but I was worried about the embossing. Result is silky smooth but just shy of finished since it has just a slight smoky look. I will finish it...

    Average tumble time with 1500?

Running around 22 rpms on slow and 65 on high. BTW, you run flasks on low or high speed?

    Average tumble time with 1500?

Thanks for the response. Sorry, should have mentioned that it is Silicone Carbide and I'm turning it in a 4" canister with fine cut copper. I'm running it on the slower speed right now as I have a flask in a 5" canister and was concerned the higher speed might be an issue.

    Average tumble time with 1500?

Hi; I'm just starting into tumbling with a proper 2 speed tumbler setup and was wondering what the average number of days you all tumble an average condition 1880s hutch bottle if using 1500 grit? I'm running the bottle on the lower speed normally meant for the square bottles since I have a...

    Does anyone post tumble?

Hi; I am a former rock tumbler hobbyist that is now transitioning to doing my bottles; I have seen the light. When I tumbled stones, apache tears, glass shards I was taught to run the final batch in a 12 hour tumble with plastic bead, a teaspoon of Borax and water to rid the batch of...

    Tumbling grit recipe?

Tumbled out my first small bottle and was extremely pleased with the results. I loaded the bottle half full of cut copper and 500 AO and water and corked it. I tumbled it in a rubber drum 3/4 full of water and plastic bead with 500AO for 5 days, then did the same set up for 5 days with 1000AO...

    Tumbling grit recipe?

Thanks Thanks. I actually found some good info on grit type on Jar Doctors web site where he describes the type grit he sells and what it does. Good thing I did as the bottle I'm tumbling now is a late 1800s but I do have plans to tumble out a few open pontil pre 1850s and was unaware that...

    Tumbling grit recipe?

Hi; I have searched around and have not found much info on what number grit AO is used or how long the tumble is when tumbling/turning bottles. Is this some sort of guarded info much like BBQ sauce recipes? Watching a youtube "how to" it only covered the basics and it appeared that polish...
