Check out earlier Fred Harvey bottles on the site. I definitely get the RR connection. Not rare but interesting.

Advice for first permission dig? 1760 home site

Thanks for the very informative suggestions willing. Truly to be successful we must understand the context of the area. I try to follow a more systematic approach approach, and old maps are my bread and butter. I'm not super experienced but have found that people haven't changed much over the...

Any thoughts on how to get these rocks that are rusted onto this off or if it should be cleaned at all?

I find that water is a good solvent for rust. Try soaking and allow it to dry. Repeat. Light scrubbing will remove much of the concretions. Might try CLR.

    What? Jug stopper?

Thanks for the info. I knew it had to be a stopper. It's good to have friends who know more than I do. Not too hard, unfortunately.

    What? Jug stopper?

I just found what looks to be a cap for a large jug. Never seen it before. It's fired clay, coffee brown glaze, 4 lines incised on the top. Crude but effective.. 2 3/4 in across top, 2 1/2 in high. The inside stopper is 1 3/4 in. What do you think ? ? ?

    Dug an 1880's privy today.

Digging at an 1853 residence today. Many early medicines but no alcohol, except 'tonic'. Three sizes of DR. A.O.WRIGHT WAUKEGAN, ILL. , a small hinge mold, creamer, and silvered lamp. Left the homeowner satisfied.

    Weird mineral creek find.

I believe that it is gypsum. I've seen it weathered like that in Mexico.
