I started collecting (in general) 8 month before I opened my store in November 2017. I consider myself a rookie because I’m still new at collecting. I’m still trying to decorate the walls which I have plenty to decorate with. I’ve been going through all the bottles Ive picked up at estate saies, auctions, yard sales etc but my favorite are the bottles my dad and I dug when I was around 6 to 8 years old. The only thing I can remember from that dig was seeing a bunch of large holes in the side of a big hill. It was one of the 3 main dump sites in Atlanta which this one is now Maddox Park. A friend of my dads and a coworker at delta airlines was a member of a certain bottle collecting group and I was told that this group or groups were the only ones allowed to go in and dig at this old site. At least at that time from what I was told. I couldn’t say how many days or if it was weeks only because I was a little fry at that time but I recon I have around 25 to 35 bottles that are in perfect shape other than what dirt and time will do to an old bottle. My dad said it was in the early 1970’s which if it was in 1975 I would have only been 8. The best he remembers and I’m sure these dates are off by a + or -year or five but it supposedly opened in the early 1860’s & closed in the early 1890’s. I’ve read a couple of articles that had their dates close but slightly off year wise. My dad kept these bottles all these years without my knowledge and brought them to me a couple of weeks ago. Both my dad and stepmom have been married since I was 6 and they are now in their early 80’s but still doing fine. I believe he forgot about these boxes of bottles up until the recent move to South Georgia about 4 months ago.

I’ve but had a whole lot of time to research any but the few I have looked at I’d say we had a decent dig back 45 to 50 years ago. One notable bottle is a Jacobs pharmacy bottle. And some of you already know that Jacobs pharmacy was the first establishment to serve coca-cola. One other one is a half gallon which has a raised Indian lady pouring from a pitcher and the bottle reads in raised lettering “Buffalo lithia water”, “natures materia medica”. Nice big ole bottle.
