question about nremoving stopper on this pontil bottle

I have used the wooden vice technique many times with success. Using the vice frees up both of your hands so you have lots of control.

question about nremoving stopper on this pontil bottle

Put a few drops of penetrating oil or lube around stopper then clamp stopper in wood jaw vise and grab bottle firmly and try wiggling it out by twisting/pulling bottle.

10ft Dig and All By Yourself/What to do?

That sure is alot of bottles. Based on the pics they look to be from the 1920s thru 1940s. I would say you have a mega dump site on your hands.

10ft Dig and All By Yourself/What to do?

Sounds like you have some good spots to dig. I suggest when you start getting deeper than 4 feet have somebody with you for safety and use a 5 gal bucket and rope to haul dirt out of hole. Post some pics too, we love seeing action shots.

Privy Advice for 1870s grocer's house

From my experience the only way to know what's in a privy is to dig it,sometimes it's a joyous thing other times and major disappointment. As far as regionally do New England privies have bottles? it really depends on the family that live there and what their habits were like. For me finding...

Oh those pesky black heads left behind from tumbling. Yup muriatic acid does the trick.

Heavy Blow Molded Ring Neck Bottle Sand Pontil?, Applied Top

Very interesting. Did you dig it? If not its hard to say what age it is. It has the crude look if an old bottle, yet there are some things that look to new. There are so many decorative bottles made today that look old.provenonce is key in helping authenticate a piece.
