    Shrewsbury Tomato Ketchup

Yes, that is an excellent bottle LC, as is your Heinz bottle example. I'd be very proud of both of them. Mike

    Shrewsbury Tomato Ketchup

I had pieced the history together like this; Hazard bought his tomato farm in 1869. He developed his ketchup recipe. I then found this site. The family tree of the late Mr. Lawence Russle Dewey. http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/lrdewey.htm Skip down to to the fourth last paragraph...

Good morning Cowseatmaize, I got that version of the story straight off the inter-web, so it must be true. Mike

    Shrewsbury Tomato Ketchup

I'm hoping to put a chronological limit to this bottle's age. Appearently, a nearly bankrupt Heinz bought the patent for the Ketchup from Edward Hazard in 1875 and I wonder if the terms of that deal ceased Hazard's Ketchup production. Mike

Thanks you guys, I appreciate your thoughts. Wvhillbilly, it is a very cool cross. I like it too. Until I find out more about it, I'll leave the bottle's contents alone. Cowseatmaize, since my first post, I've found that the BLM has an awesome website on this subject. I looked at the...

    Black Bear Brand

I managed to get a picture of the both the wooden bottle stopper top, and of the embossing on the bottom. "E. B. & Co Ld. 12146" Any opinions about the number? Thanks, Mike

    Black Bear Brand

I found a very cool bottle in Vancouver B.C. It came from an excavation in a very old part of town called Blood Alley. I don't collect so forgive me if this is a common sort of item to you folks. I believe it's not. I've only rinsed away the clay and soil with a trickle from a garden hose. I...
