Wow, that's a cool variant. There are 4 Entwisle bottles listed in the 4th Edition of the Potomac Bottle Collectors book, Antique Bottles from the Washington DC Area. However, of these, two are from Alexandria, VA (James Entwisle Apothecary - presumably the earlier one, as one of the two are...
Interesting about the base embossing - the hutch I found out in Sac a couple years ago on a dig with Doug (dabeel) also has the CAPITAL SODA WORKS embossing on the bottom (no "SAC"). The side embossing on the hutch is

All great finds! Even though you note it's more common than the clear one, that cobalt one is really awesome. Love the addressed San Jose pharmacies, I went to school at San Jose State, real close to the old downtown. Unfortunately, I didn't know anything about digging back then. Missed...
Great news, Doug! Glad you found something within an easy commute of the house, har har. Interesting that you'd find a Long Beach milk up in the Bay Area... and Walnut Grove is a bit of a hike from you as well, no? In any case, hope you find more down there!
You can actually set up your Mac to let you right-click like on a PC. Just go to System Preferences, then click Mouse. It defaults to only having a single click, but you can actually set up right-click, side-click, etc., etc.
As a lifelong PC guy who just got a new Mac, it took me awhile to...
Seems the way they have it set up the images can't be directly displayed external to that site, unless you were to save each one and then upload them individually (and they have some copyright verbiage on there, so best to just link to them to stay outta trouble).
This link leads to the whole...
Dan,
Yet another awesome set of finds. Given all the Staunton bottles you've found, have you kept any kind of list of the different druggists, sodas, beers, etc.? As one of the other posters mentioned, I would bet you have come across more of them than anyone else!
I'm in Virginia as well (northern, near DC), which is why I was so surprised at the condition of the stuff you post. Sorry to hear for your sake that they come out sick down there, but I guess that's a small price to pay for the quantity/quality of stuff you find! Most of the privies I've dug...
Dan,
Great stuff as always, that monogrammed Roanoke blob is a beauty. I have a VERY sick example of the Salvation Oil that I dug on the site of the Nationals Stadium (during its construction), so it's nice to see a cleaned up version. How big of a town was Staunton back in the day? It's...
That's a beautiful bottle - always impressive how "un-sick" the bottles you find in that dump are. Very lucky!
Here's the only Bitters I have, a pretty sick Hostetters. For contrast, next to it is a Sacramento hutch found about a foot away. These were both dug on a great dig with my Dad...
