questions about dirt (dump and privy digging)

Ok, so the probe i used to find the pieces of "stuff" underground. Got it. So what's the best thing to use as a probe? Or does someone actually manufacture probes for this purpose?

Two Michigan Pictorial Paper Label Meds

I was a graphic designer and I love the old fashioned artwork on bottles like these (boxes and tins too). Where is the best place to find label bottles like these... estate sales?

questions about dirt (dump and privy digging)

Thanks for the tip, MINN. I'm still a newbie to this... I've read that probes could be used to detect the wooden sides of outhouse pits, but how are they used in dumps? What I mean is, would I be feeling for it to hit a layer of solid rock or something? Thanks!

Janese Military skull highly toxic poison green

Glass is used to store a great many chemicals because it is an inert material. It doesn't react with anything. That's literally the only thing I remember from high school science class, LOL!

    Expensive Nevada bottle

So a four piece mold would be like four quarters fit together instead of the normal two halves? Meaning, it would have 4 seams down the side? Correct?

questions about dirt (dump and privy digging)

Heh, on the one hand, the dump is in the country, on the other hand, it was a pretty immediate color change. Another thing to note is that I started hitting rocks in this lighter soil. No rocks in the darker top layer.

    Found some Color

So, dumb question.... are you able to actually see bottles on the river floor, or are you just sort of feeling around? Also, are you using scuba gear or snorkeling?

    Bottle clubs in central Pennsylvania?

Are there any bottle clubs in or around central Pennsylvania? I'm looking for anyone who wouldn't mind an extra hand coming along on a dig?

questions about dirt (dump and privy digging)

So I was digging my first dump the other weekend and I kept noticing that the dirt would change color after I got about 6-10 inches deep. It would turn med-to-light brown, whereas the soil above it was dark. It seemed that the buried stuff was only in the top, dark layer. Is that true? If I hit...

My first dig - dump in PA

Yep, I did actually find another Geise bottle there but it was broken in half :( Next time I'm there I plan to look around for more. Does anyone know anything about the amber milk bottle? I've heard of them before but this is the first amber one I've actually seen. It's an ACL, but is it...

My first dig - dump in PA

Thanks for the replies :) I'm definitely hooked and will be here for a long time I'm sure, hehe. I was very happy to find a poison on my first dig. It's just a tiny bottle... maybe two inches, but the color is cool. Here it is cleaned up a bit: (Not sure why this forum is turning my...

My first dig - dump in PA

Hi folks! I'm new to the forum and pretty new to bottle collecting. I just had my first dig this past weekend on my uncle's farm dump. I took some quick pictures of them to show you. When I get them cleaned up, I'll take some better pix. I don't think any of them are rare, but I'm not sure...
