Hello my friends, for some reason I thought I was a relatively lone lunatic with a passion for bottle collecting. What a relief it is to find out I'm not alone, I see there are over 20.000 members here that enjoy collecting as much as I do!
I have been collecting ever since a was a child, now retired and 65 years of age I have decided to focus my collecting on pop bottles, I mainly collect Dad's , 7 Up, and Orange Crush. That being said, I will buy anything that catches my eye though, I especially enjoy pop bottles from the 30's and 40's, love the art deco stuff! I also have quite a few A&W mugs and 7 up glasses.
As a child I did alot of dump digging, crawling under old houses , checking out attics and abandoned old barns and out buildings, rode my bicycle many a mile looking for relics. During that time I collected old fruit jars, insulators, medicine and whiskey bottles, always was after the cork tops! All that is now packed away in my attic, crying out to be displayed if only I had a place!
Now my searches have been narrowed down to E-bay, garage sales, auctions and flea markets. Still enjoy the hunt, even though it doesn't involve getting my hands dirty anymore!. Recently at a neighbors auction I found an 8 bubble 1940 7 Up and a 1939 OC both in excellent condition in a box of pop bottles for $30. I was happy!
Some of my prize possessions include a relatively rare pop bottle from one of my old home towns of Republic, Mo. A locally bottled pop from the early 1900's. and a full set of Kirby's and Kelley and Kerr whiskey bottles from Springfield ,Mo. Kirby's and Kelley and Kerr was a bar in Springfield located on 222 College street in the late 1800's and early 1900's known to be frequented by the likes of "Will Bill" Hickok and Buffalo Bill when they were in town.
