English or American? 1870s/80s liquor bottle.

This is a great old turn mold bottle from the 1870s/80s. I am aware that a majority of turn mold bottles were from England, but I’m not too sure about this one. Usually bottles from England have the skirt feature to the finish. It would had came in from Galveston if from England, so I’m looking for your input nhpharm. Note: This bottle also has a 95° outward angle.

This turn mold stuff can be a bit tricky. I'd say about 90% likely that it would be from the UK...the color and the lip especially point towards that. There was quite a bit of turn mold stuff produced by various glassworks in the US, including whiskey and mineral water bottles, but the color on this doesn't match any of the turn mold stuff I have seen from the US and the lip is more what I see on various UK whiskey bottles. I'd also date it a bit later...mid 1880's-mid 1890's likely.

I agree that it doesn't look American. Doesn't quite look like the sort of UK beers that we get by the thousands up here either though, although that could be because it predates when the majority of ours were imported or it wasn't a design commonly used for exporting. It's also possible that it could be from continental Europe as well I guess, I'm not too familiar with what most of those countries were doing at that time.

I agree with CanadianBottles. The bottle is likely to be an import from Europe. The Brits are pikers when it comes to turn-mold bottles when compared with Western Europeans, especially France and Germany. Many empty bottles were imported from W. Europe by American bottlers after single-use bottles became the norm.
