F A McVean - Toronto Ontario embossed soda bottle

noticed this bottle is for sale on ebay , not sure i've ever seen this one before . unique embossing , maple leaf with soda / seltzer bottle in the centre .

embossed " F.A McVean , trade mark , Toronto "

don't know much about this bottler but listed as operating in the 1900's-10's in Toronto Ontario a time when there was alot of smaller bottlers operating in that city

Great graphics on that one! You don't see too many embossed images of seltzer bottles. Seems a bit pricey for a Toronto bottle of that era though, maybe it's really rare but I'd be hesitant to lay down much money for anything out of Toronto from that era without knowing the exact up-to-date rarity considering how much came out of those waterfront excavations.

i noticed it shown in that book , doesn't mention rarity though , there is a price guide that comes with that book and listed as $75.00

pretty sure its not common and the graphics do seem to be unique , not really sure if there still finding bottles at the toronto water front or not ?

they haven't had a toronto botle show ( it was in pickering ) since 2019 so not sure whats going on there , haven't even seen anything about this years show , it used to always be in april but nothing

not sure about a value ? only really serious toronto collectors who didn't have one yet would pay that much , its listed in an old price guide at $75 but have no idea what its worth now

Yea Dr. Dean axelson price book isnt too revelant to today's prices (22 years old at the height of the 2000s antique boom) honestly I think I did see one in a Barrie antique shop go for 50$ I think 5 years ago

the book is neat in terms of a reference tool , 22 years ago doesn't seem that old considering the age of some of the bottle books out there alot are from the 60's or 70's and his has alot more pictures than the older ones did , but still old enough to not be current

yea the price book are good to know which is rare or not and the estimated value ( which some might still hold its original value price from 22 years ago) but yea if you look at coin/bottle/ antique price books published in between (1997-2005) the prices are crazy high when collecting was at its prime, examples of items that have dropped a lot in price is Coca-Cola merch. Kodak cameras, Baseball cards and Elvis stuff lol, but some things have gone right up in price like Vinyl Records, Brass items, Stain Glass items, etc. so the market is always changing specially with covid has made people close lots of antique shops across Ontario, what might not be worth anything today might be worth something in the future.
