Robby if it wasn't for people "littering" years ago, us bottle collectors would all be out of business now , lol. I love finding old Cokes laying in the woods and on roadsides. They are starting to be found less anymore.
It doesn't *always* work, but does increase the chances it will many times. I dug a rare local milk with a WW2 back, but even after 30 days it still destructed. I think the minerals in the dirt it's found in has a lot to do with it.
RobbyBobby, I posted your pic of that item on my metal detecting forum and after 123 looks nobody has identified it either, except the single response said maybe part of a trap. I'll chime in if someone ID's it.
Probably never know who actually came up with these terms, collectors heard others say them and started using them because it was an easy way to be understood when talking about a particular bottle or feature.
