crown cork and seal slug plate quart milk - rare?

Several months ago while cleaning up litter at a local beach, I discovered this incredibly deep SCA milk quart in a mussel bed at low tide. The side of the bottle was exposed and from the looks of it the little beauty had been sunning itself in the shallows for the last century. The slug plate...

    Two-fer tonics!

I stopped in at my favorite antique shop yesterday and was greeted by Bud, the owner, who told me they had got a bunch of new bottles in! So I opened up the cabinet and began rifling through the typical array of semi-local and out of state pharms, slicks, coke bottles and junky '50s milks. It...

    Crystal Spring Gallon Blob

Picked this up today at an estate sale for $14. Thought it was pretty cool. Now officially the biggest bottle in my collection! I pictured the quart lightning jar for comparison (same sale: $5) Embossing reads: Pine Hill/Crystal Spring Water/Co/Pine Hill NY/ Catskill Mountains.

    6-sided French(?) cologne- any info?

This cologne has graced my collection for many years and is one of my favorites- however I have never found it listed anywhere. Can't find ANY info on it actually. I believe it to be European, possibly french, in origin. It is clear, 4 1/2" tall, 6 sided, sand pontilled, and has a nice, crude...

    3D Privy wallpaper

Thought some of you privy diggers might like to paste this up on your desktops. (I'll bet Rick already has it) I re-sized it for the forum, but it's available in all sizes to fit your screen. Its in the still life gallery of this web site. Here's the link: http://visualparadox.com/objects.htm...

    Dump digs...nice cologne

My lovely lady and I headed down to our TOC - 20s dump this afternoon to play in the mud for a bit. (A dump, by the way, which was supposedly "dug out" 20 or so yrs ago....) I jumped back in a hole I started last weekend, and she got going in a hole someone had opened up way back. It was next to...

    promising signs

Did a little exploring today at an old abandoned house. First I took a scratcher into the crawlspace for a few minutes and came up with these pontiled bases [:)] and some big pieces of flow blue china. So I grabbed my four foot probe outta the truck and started pokin around out the back. Forty...

    Posting Multiple Images

I figured an easier way using photobucket. Wherever you want to add an image in your post, place the cursor where you want the image, and click the "add image" button. (at the right of the toolbar) It will give you a window to paste a code. Then go to your photobucket album and place the cursor...

    Revolutionary war german jug

This wine jug was dug (along with several others) by my grandfather on a Revolutionary war battlefield near Dobbs Ferry, NY. We were told it was left behind by Hessian soldiers who were fighting on the British side. Thought I would show it off...Anyone out there know more about it? Value?

    beginner privy question

I do most of my digging on Long Island's south shore, where we are blessed with many very old towns. The soil structure here usually consists of 2 to 4 feet of soft topsoil, sometimes a thin layer of gravel, and under that it's pure soft sand. We also have a high water table - dig 8 feet almost...

    pontiled or not?

I have a crude, scant-size pint flask that I have always wondered about. It has a slightly crooked neck and a nicely tooled lip. It's loaded with seeds and little potstones. The surface has an overall weird, uneven texture. There is a hemispherical indent in the base that has a rough texture...

    Diggin' Dad's Dump

I did a lot of diggin' growing up in my hometown - now at 35, I'm getting back into it with new passion! About 3 weeks ago, I rode out to my Dad's house on Long Island's east end, welded up my first probe, and couldn't wait to try it - turns out I didn't need to go far. Behind the garage, not 10...

    clear "krinkly" crush

I dug this nice 6 oz. Orange Crush last weekend and was surprised at the color, because I have only remembered seeing them in amber. It has the Pat'd July 20 1920 date. From what I gather, these were only produced for a short time in the 1920's. What is the rarity on these?

    ACL preservation

Yesterday i unearthed a couple of nice late 1930s ACL sodas. The labels were perfect when they came up, but flaked and fell off within hours of exposure to air. Is there any trick to preserving these delicate painted labels - or were these just too far gone?

    narrow privy

While investigating a potential dig site, I discovered a round, brick lined pit, but I am reluctant to dig it out because the top opening is only about 14" in diameter. By 2 feet down, it widens out to about 20" or so. I think it might have been a well. This pit was exposed, the brick is very...
