What to do with 9 and 1/3 pounds of Silver/Mercury Amalgam?

The arrastra I am talking about was actually....probably pre-gold-rush. Worked by Sonoran miners in the 1840's. The mercury had to come from the New Almaden mine & the whole subject is confused by the pointy-headed intelle-tchew-iles who think they know it all about Cal. history. Fact is, the...

Limited shelf space: which would you pick?

I'm in Cal. so I see a lot of Napa Sodas, definitely go with Pop-Beer. I guess that's what kind of beer fathers used to drink?

    Fredericksburg Brewery

Thanks to all for the input. Doug, now I think I might know what the remains of a green beer-shaped bottle I found were! Cool, that will keep me digging. CALDIGR2, mine is tooled & from the other finds in the same strata I'm guessing 1880's. Really heavy glass, deep red amber, moderate...

What to do with 9 and 1/3 pounds of Silver/Mercury Amalgam?

I'm not recommending the following, but when I was younger & dumber I did it & it worked. This is strictly informational. Anyways, I dug up an old arrastra that I found, and under the grinding stones I recovered a couple pounds of gold/mercury amalgm. I didn't want to mess with acid,. so I read...

    Green Chief Bottle

I have several Chief ACL's & they seem to come in different sizes & varieties. I cannot speak about their value, except to say that I have sold a few to bikers who ride "Indian Chief" motorcycles. I've gotten $20 apiece from them, and they prefer the ones with red colored paint. Never seen a...

    My dump...bottles

CALDIGR2, there were/are several nice embossed local sodas, whiskeys & beers. I sold & traded some. Also quite a few tooled condiments & sodas with embossing on the bottom. This dump is untouched, I'm positive. I found it by chance, digging a hole. No signs of any disturbance since the garbage...

    My dump weird finds

Syringe? Urethral syringe? YOWCH! Makes sense, however. Thanks for the ideas & info everyone. I'm pretty sure the three nozzles are from an old enema contraption, I saw identical ones in the local (Murphys, Ca.) Museum. I do know the history of my property & so have a good idea who &...

    Fredericksburg Brewery

From my dump, I pulled out this beer. Really heavy glass, deep red amber. Embossed Property of/Fredericksburg/Brewery/San Jose Cal. Have found fragments of three others of same kind. Tooled top. Anyone know anything about this brewery?

    Art Glass

I traded for this a few years ago, and have no idea where it came from or who made it. It's a very impressive piece of glass, weighs 6 pounds. 14" tall, blown & pontiled. Unique geometric bubbles seem like part of the design. Art Deco? No markings at all. I love this thing, it's monumental!

    Strap Hinge Flask?

This is a find from my dump, one of my favorites. Case mold & applied top. No embossing, but just a gorgeous yellow-olive color & great crudity. Anyone got any ideas what it might be/where from? 10-1/2" tall, holds a bit more than a pint.

    Emil Larsen Art Glass

This is a pic of the Emil Larsen & another pontiled swirl that I came across & couldn't resist. Sorry the pic is a little dark, but the amethyst is very deeply colored.

    My dump weird finds

And more I'm told this is an opium bottle. About 2-1/2" tall & very crude.

    My dump weird finds

More This one is driving me crazy. Some kind of suction gun, but for what? The plunger is wrapped in heavy type thread, and the nozzle is about 1/32" in size. Mining tool? Medical device? Any ideas? 14" long, all glass.

    My dump weird finds

Found a dump in my backyard last winter, total accident. Since then I've taken out 5 dozen bottles in good condition, and a selection of weird items. Dump dates from 1870's to 1920's at the top, apparently never burned or bulldozed so a lot of stuff in good condition. The area I'm in was a...

    Emil Larsen Art Glass

Thank you potstone for the tip, currently looking for a copy. Will try to post a pic of my Emil Larson glass...it took me years of waiting out the owner, and then I had to trade a dozen good ACL's to get it, but I had to have that color in my window!
